![]() The difference between getting the jump on a Gorilla and still having it kill you in the ensuing struggle vs fighting one head on and failing to kill it is clearly different. Based off the reasoning here Leopards struggle to deal with baboons much smaller than them? To put this in perspective you might be able to grasp better.Ī male leopard got ambushed by two 'much smaller' male baboons and the outcome was a dead leopard and only one dead male baboon. The fact that gorillas have such a difficult time with leopards doesn't exactly bode well for this fight. Pantanal jaguars are 220 pounds on average, 350 pounds max. How often do you hear of Gorilla being gutted apart by Leopards?īecause something that is about 150 pounds according to a very quick google search managed to kill something twice it’s size plus about 30 pounds, again from a very quick google search? In a straight up fight that occurred and the silverback managed to fight back? Duh.Īfrican leopards are 130 pounds on average, 200 pounds max. The only feasible evidence to warrant an argument in favor of the cat is their claws are debilitating to ape skin and even then that's offset by the apes larger size. The only plausible outcome in both instances is the Leopard was the aggressor and considering how they usually take Gorilla at night or in ambush situations the fact one still died WITH the Gorilla it likely ambushed says a lot about the apes capacity to defend itself. If a Leopard wanted to escape a Gorilla it could easily do so (which is the most likely outcome of the fight where both stopped fighting) meanwhile a Gorilla can not escape a Leopard that pressed its advantage. How's that less impressive on the Gorilla when the Gorilla likely was on the defensive from an attacking Leopard? Keep in mind I do not doubt their strength I doubt their capability to use it effectively, especially considering they have the capability to grapple effectively against a leopard (inb4 thin skin argument and claws slicing like knives through butter) in an ambush, how on earth would they lose unless they’re being utterly incompetent in their defense and aren’t even pushing it away or hitting it, or even biting it? ![]() That is less impressive on the gorilla’s part versus the leopard’s part. But silverbacks are anywhere from 100kg minimum to maybe 165kg, versus a leopard that is most likely certainly under 100kg. The only fights we have both died or both tapped out and departed, yes. If anything evidence implies an Ape victory. Literally no evidence this fight is 50/50 face to face. The only fights we have both died (which says a lot on the Leopard for most likely ambushing a Gorilla and still being killed in the process) or both departed which once again implies the Gorilla fought off a Leopard and walked away without serious injuries. ![]() There's no accounts of a Leopard winning against a Gorilla though outside of clear hunting scenarios? Given a jag might not be as agile as a leopard it could help in the gorillas favor but I’m pretty sure a jaguar would win. They’re super strong, but they just won’t use their strength. It’s not like gorillas are weak or anything.I’ve just never seen an account of them actually winning against a leopard minus the AvA series from animal planet or whatever it was lmao.
